Sharing music with friends is a great way to let someone know you’re thinking of them or to share a track you’ve been obsessed with. If you are looking to send music directly from an Apple device, the process varies slightly depending on whether you want to gift an entire album or a single track.
Here is everything you need to know about gifting music using your Apple ecosystem.
Gifting an Album from Your iPhone
If you want to send a full project or album straight from the iTunes Store app on your iPhone, you can do so in just a few taps.
- Open the iTunes Store App: Launch the iTunes Store app on your iPhone. If you don’t see it on your home screen, you can swipe down to use Spotlight Search to find it.
- Find the Album: Use the search tab to look up the album you wish to purchase for your friend.
- Tap the Share Button: Once you are on the album’s detail page, look toward the top right corner of the screen and tap the Share icon (the box with an arrow pointing upward).
- Select “Gift”: From the pop-up share sheet menu, select the Gift option.
- Enter Recipient Details: Follow the on-screen prompts to enter your friend or family member’s email address. You can also write a personalized message and choose a delivery date.
- Complete the Purchase: Review your information, confirm the purchase, and your recipient will receive an email notification with instructions to redeem their gift.
A Note on Gifting Single Songs
Apple’s mobile iOS interface for the iTunes Store typically restricts direct individual song gifting straight from an iPhone or iPad (limiting mobile music gifting options to full albums).
If you specifically want to gift an individual song rather than an entire album, you have a couple of easy workarounds:
- Use a Computer: Open the iTunes Store via the Apple Music app on a Mac or a Windows PC. Search for the individual track, click the arrow next to the song’s price, select Gift This Song, and enter your recipient’s email.
- Send an Apple Gift Card: Alternatively, you can send an Apple Gift Card via email through the App Store on your iPhone. This allows your friend to use the balance to buy the exact single track (or any other app, game, or subscription) that they want.
